Activity Report of FECCIA 1996-1999

 

 

FECCIA was present to the last CEC General Assembly at Copenhagen, on 6-09-1996 and obtained a position of Vice-president representing European Federations in the CEC Board. During these three years, FECCIA has intervened on subjects concerning the sectorial dialogue, European Works Councils and statutes of European Company. Its representative has also participated in conferences organized by the CEC.

Activities of FECCIA have been following:

FECCIA participates in European social dialogue in the chemical sector and positions taken by FECCIA are communicated to CEC.

Contacts take place at several levels:

- with European Commission, especially, Fernando Vasquez of DG V, in charge of European Works Councils and other representives in charge of sectorial commissions.

- with enterprises executives, more particularly in France, with derogatory agreement signature on installation of European Works Councils (Elf Aquitaine, Rhône-Poulenc, L’Oréal, Saint-Gobain, Péchiney, Carbone-Lorraine, Total) or in expert beside CFE-CGC representatives (BSN-DANONE, Sema-Group, Unilever, American Home Product, Sandoz), but also in Belgium (Solvay), in Germany (Bayer, BASF, Degussa, Hoechst, Hüls), in Great Britain (ICI, Glaxo-Welcome). The FECCIA has organized a french - german task force, for the creation of Aventis resulting the merging of Rhône-Poulenc and HMR (Hoechst - Marion - Roussel), that already met twice at Strasbourg and Lyon and will meet at Frankfurt at the beginning of December 1999.

- with representatives of ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation) and especially in the Chemical sector, with the General Secretary of EMCEF, Franco Bisegna.

- with representatives of CEFIC (European Council of the Chemical Industry), with the CEO (Hugo Lever) and the General Secretary that provided to FECCIA all the economic documentation, information reviews and convocation to the General Assembly, every two years.

- with CODE, Observation Center of European Directive within conferences "Europe and Society" , subsidized by European Commission.

Note that FECCIA has participated in the installation of the European Works Council of L’OREAL, where the Secretary is Georges LIAROKAPIS, CFE-CGC, elected with European participants votes.

The FECCIA has participated in Paris to the European manifestation on 10 June 1997 for employment, with CEC and ETUC, CFE-CGC and FCC, and other trade union organizations.

  • Report on European Works Councils in the Chemical sector in Europe
  • Report on restructuring in the great Groups of the Chemical sector in Europe
  • Opening of FECCIA to Belgium
  • Decision of the new organisation of the Executive Committee

Executive Committee on 5/ 09 / 1998 to Rome:

  • Replacement of Klaus Alberti (VAA) by Vincent François (FCC) as President, and Götz D. von Bredow (VAA) becomes General Secretary
  • Press release on the excellent results of European Chemistry in 1997 (+7% in turnover), while staffs reduce by 1,5%

Executive Committee on 25 / 09 / 1999 in London:

  • Replacement of David Jones by Andy Taylor (AMPS) as Treasurer
  • Press release on the success of euro, the negative impact of the ecotaxes on the European Chemistry, the necessity of negotiation with the personnel, and especially Managers, in case of enterprises merger, the necessity to elaborate statutes of European Company and the wait of young generations on Social Europe.
